can anyone help me. I have just put in for our skills assessment to the TRA, my husband is a mechanic / mot tester, all the sights say that you need 6 years experience if you have no formal qualifications, well i have been able to go back 8 years as any further and compannies have gone bust or he was involved in the electraical side of cars. My agent has sent it off and we will see but they seem to think that we have a lesser chance of passing as he could really do with more years on paper. does anyone have any similar experiences.
My partner has seven years' experience in his trade although he has no formal qualifications. He started work in 1995 and in Feb 2000 we left to go to Australia on a whv. He resumed employment a while after our return (April 2001) which means that he had a break of more than 12 months. This in turn means that we have to wait until August 2004 to gain the extra points for the "three out of four years in the skilled occupation" to meet the passmark. He is currently gathering all the information needed for the TRA skills assessment to at least get that done. I suspect that his deeming date will be after the six years experience (i.e. Aug 2001) which means that we will have to wait till August 2005 before we have sufficient points (assuming that the three years are in addition to the "12 out of the last 18 months" requirement). I don't know if I'm right on that or not though. If you have any thoughts I'd be glad to hear them!
I know that this is not of any help to you really but it's a slightly similar situation to yours. Good luck - let me know how it goes!
