I am a self employed.

I am required to submit "employer references and detailed duty statements".

How do I go about satisfying DIMIA, on this?

Would anyone throw any light on this?

Any help would be most welcome.

I know that if your being assessed by the TRA (Trades Recognition Australia) - you should go to their website - link via DIMIA website - www.workplace.gov.au (I think) this should detail is required from someone who is self employed. Clients/suppliers to supply references.

Suppliers stating length of time they have done business with you, how much you have spent with them in last 12 months and what products you have purchased.

Clients - I guess just personal recommendations - what you do, that you do it well and how long for

You have to provide a statement yourself in great detail exactly what it is that you do what equipment you use etc etc.

Your accountant can also provide you with a reference together with copies of your accounts.

Cant think off hand what else but like I said check the website.

good luck

My husband is just collecting all relevant info for the TRA so I hope this will be of help.

1. You need some form of statement from your employer at time of your apprentice out lining your tasks, to include dates of apprenticeship.

2. If you did day release you will need some form of statement from the college that you attended and that you obtained certification in your trade. We thought this sounded a bit OTT, but apparently due to the fact that it is easy to get fraudulant documentation and certificates these days they need proof that the certificates you provide to them are genuine.

3. Letter from accountant with dates from and to you were self employed.

4. Any past and present clients you can call on to give you references for works completed.

5. They like to see quotations if you have any for past and present works, althouth not essential I believe.

6. Some for of documentation from the tax man actually stating that you are a self employed, 'Plumber, Electrician', what ever your trade is make sure it is on the tax man's reference.

Basically any references and statements that you think will be an advantage to your application.

We are using an agent and he states it is better to have too much info than not enough and be turned down to start over again.

I hope this will be of some use, it's not as bad as it seems once you have a starting place.

Good luck

Wendie
