Hello all

Just thought i'd share some news with all of you who want to take their animals out with them. We are taking our dog and cat to Perth and knew there was a waiting list for dogs. We have just heard back from the animal shipping company and have found out the situation is even worse for cats. The dog can go mid November but the cat cant go until December. Apparently even Sydney and Melbourne are having the same crisis, so they cant even do their quarantine there and fly to Perth afterwards. There was a landslide in Sydney a while ago and it affected the cat part of quarantine which is all being rebuilt and so inevitably they can only take half the amount of cats. We are finding that it is cheaper if they both go together and so now are having to board them both for 21 days before they fly out in December to Perth. My advice to anyone is if they have animals then get the import permit now and book them a place even if you havent sold etc yet because in hindsight I wish I'd done it months ago! The shipping company have said that they have asked and looked into the animals being able to do their quarantine here and then flying out afterwards which DEFRA are in agreement with but there are just too many protocols to get through and so it will probably never happen. Hope this thread is useful to some of you!

Cheers

Suzanne

Hi
Sorry to hear about your troubles. How much is it costing to ship the animals out and how long do they remain in quarantine over there? We have just heard that our visas will be granted and are weighing up whether it is possible to take our cat, who I love dearly. Just not sure if she'd cope with the move and such a different environment. Feel very excited, but sad at the thought of rehoming her. :-(

Hi Peanuts mum

Our cat Douglas is far easier to take out than our dog George. All Douglas needs is to be up to date with his boosters and to be chipped. I think his flight etc is around 7 - 800 pounds. George on the other hand has to have blood tests and allsorts and is costing thousands to get out there. The waiting list for cats however is until December at the moment and getting later each day. You have to first get an import permit which at the moment is taking about 10 days to come through and then they can book the quarantine space and flights. They can only book this though if you have an australian address. We are using our relatives address just to get it booked up.

Hope this all helps!

Suzanne

Thanks Suzanne
How much is the quarantine for cats though, or are you saying that all you pay for is an import licence and then flights?

Hi,

We have sent our cat to Melbourne about 2 weeks ago and this what we have paid out so far.
£950.00 using agent here to ship and do the paper work for Melbourne
Au$650.00 for 30 days quaratine you have to pay direct to them.
Also we will be paying another Au$500.00 to have him flown to another part South Australia where we are going to live.

I hope this you helps with cats.

Hi Peanuts Mum

Off the top of my head I think it is about 750 pounds for his flight and then we were told that we have to pay about $800 per animal direct to Perth Quarantine when they are released.

Cheers

Hi Peanuts Mum,
Excellent news on your visa....we are looking forward to that day!! with regards to quarantine apparently it is 30 days. I have been doing my research as I have two dogs we are not sure if they could cope with the journey though.

It is a really tough thing to think about. We are prepared that we may have to leave our cat behind with someone we trust. The thought saddens me, but I also wonder if she'll cope with the journey and such a different environment. What stage are you at with your application?
