I'm gutted to have just received my skills assessment back from NIA informing me I'm not suitable for Accountant ASCO code 2211-11, meeting only 7 of the required elements, with auditing, law (x2), economics and statistics (????) not being met...frustrating to say the least especially when I've been working in accountancy for 22 years!!!
I took the recognised route of AAT leading to exemption of Foundation level CIMA which I passed in 2004 and became an CIMA Associate member in 2005.
The foundation level of CIMA has the majority of subjects above, which is where I think the NIA have identified the "gap"? Annoyingly they haven't advised me of this and have stated that I can either appeal or re-subimt my application in full....there goes another gbp 300!!!
Any advice on where I go from here would be appreciated.
Consider applying to the ICAA. Members of CIMA are deemed to have qualifications that are considered to be equivalent to an Australian accounting degree, and we have never had such an application fail.
We don't seek migration skills assessments for accountants from any other body than the ICAA, so I can't comment on the NIA's approach.
Maybe telephone our office in Southampton on 023 80 30 2525, and ask for Marina Towner.
Best regards.
