Just a note to ask has anyone got any tips for good removal companies and maybe not so good? We live in Cornwall and many companies won't even come out to the house! We have Bishops, Robinsons and Roses lined up to come and do quotes. Does anyone have any experiences they might share thanks
I know the guys next door used Bishops and because they did not use a full container they had to wait ages until the container arrived with everything. If you have a contianer to yourself though guess that wint be a problem.
We used John Mason when we moved over here and had no problems with them at all.
Would ditto that of John Mason..we used them last week and our container left for Melbourne last week. JM were very professional indeed. Would not know how much it cost as it was a company paid move.

Anybody got any experiences they would like to share about the process for getting your belongings checked in Oz by the customs/quarantine people? The stuff we are getting shipped across is (very fortunately)being paid for by my future employers, however, customs/quarantine check fees and onward movement to our rented accommodation must be paid for by me. Reading up on what happens regarding examining your belongings seems to be a right nightmare (!), just wondering whether it's just that it reads badly but isn't too bad to actually do? My concern isn't that I'm trying to bring something in that I shouldn't, it's just that it seems even pine furniture appears to be a threat to the quarantine people?!! Whilst on the subject, any recommendations for a removals firm to move stuff from Sydney to Richmond?

Hi Gary, having just gone through the Customs and quarantine and cleared it all myself and fam, and saved $1500.00 it just means getting your container off the dock within the 3 to 4 day period they give you, then its down to getting all the paperwork together from the clearing house, and ask them do you have all the relivant papers,or they will have you going round from Billy to Jack like a mad thing. If at all possible have your partner front the whole operation, they seem to be much nicer to females than to males, well thats my experience anyway. best of luck.
Thanks for that Martyboy, very interesting! When you say it saved you $1500, is that what you were quoted to have an agent do it all for you....and what volume was that based on. Were they sensible with your wood based materials and did you take in any stuff that was 'garden-orientated'. Sorry for all the 'Q's but just trying to get the detail so that I can make a considered decision on whether to do it all myself or just say "to hell with it" and pay an agent knowing damn well that it's probably going to cost 3 times as much! Where abouts have you settled, by the way?
