Dear Alan

Considering your extensive experience with both the accounting industry and migration affairs I couldn't resist the temptation of asking about your vision of the situation. If the recent trends in the accounting industry are observed within the policy framework announced by the government, how things are going to unfold for those seeking to settle in Australia and start their careers as accountants?

Lets say under current rules I'm perfectly fit to qualify for the GSM visa under CSL due to age, a two-year postgrad degree, the occupation and the language, with work experience being my only weakness where I can't make a claim. My current score on the points test is 125, composed of 60 for occupation, 30 age, 25 IELTS, 5 study, 5 extra language.

How likely is it that eligibility of accounting students may be affected by mid-year when new SOL is rolled out and what kind of changes may be revealed?

I am in a very similar situation to this, studying towards accountancy degree in England and due to start accountancy role to gain my 12 months experience. Is their any indication around how likely it will be that Accountants will be removed from the skills list? I have 13 years experience in a Bank (non-accounting role)but this does not qualify me due to my age (35+).
Everything seems centred around students; is this for stuednts who were not born in Aus but are studying in Aus?
It's quite confusing(!)
Any guidance would be much appreciated Alan.

Regards
Roz

I see no signs of the demand for Accountants abating - but I am not Skills Australia, and they may well have the statistics that tell a different story.

Maybe also have a look at: http://www.clarius.com.au/PDF/...202009%20Quarter.pdf

Best regards.
