I have a 2003 vw golf diesel with very low mileage. If I sell it in the Uk I will lose alot of money. Anyone with experience of taking their car with them and the cost /hassle of doing it? Any help much appreciated. Ta! marilyn
hi marilyn i would seriously consider the costs involved in shipping your car, the best thing you can do, is telephone a shipping company and enquiry about the price, there is a lot involved in shipping a car, im selling my car before i go, ( i know im going to loose money, but in the long run it works out cheaper than shipping it), there is customs to consider, you have to have the car spotless, (steam clean the engine) pay shipping costs, customs clearance, and other things as well, also i did read somwhere, not sure if it is true, but you have to change the headlight and the speedo cable to comply with oz standards. hope this helps. regards michelle good luck with what ever you do.

I looked at shipping my car but the costs were far to much (by the time you added the taxes and the shipping costs) plus from what I read as the car will be an import it will be worthless when you decide to sell it.

recently looked at taking my golf from oz back to ther uk, for a sectioned off part of a container big enough for the car and the rest of my goods to be packed around the car as they build a shelf type system i was looking at around $11,000+ extras, needless to say i sold the car.
VW golf 2003 going for around sydney for $20,000 - $23,000 so about 9 large ones. So you might be better off selling and buying again.

Thanks, Michelle. Sounds like I'll have to bite the bullet and sell - there's enough hassle getting myself across without adding to it. May try the internet to sell it, my son sold his this way quite successfully.
