When he was 17, 8 years ago, my son was charged for possession of cannabis (for his own use). Does anyone know if this will prevent him obtaining a visa to Oz?

I don't know about UK law but under Irish law that would have been struck off his record by now.

Thanks Niamh. Apparently it stays on there according to him. It would be stupid if something like that stood in the way of a visa. Then I think that if that was the case, hardly any visas would be issued!!

He should still apply as it is up to the case officer to assess his crime and as it is so minor and so long ago it shouldn't go against him. An agency should be able to advise him as they deal with this all the time.
