Can anybody tell me how long the process will take for a skilled independent visa application from start to finish?. I think it will be best to send it to Adelaide for processing as it appears to be shorter, any suggestions?. My husband is an Electrical Engineer and is elligble for registration with the IEAust as a Professional Engineer. Does anybody know what the job prospects are like for Electrical Engineers and what sort of salary to expect?.
Hi There, I applied for a skill assessment by the IEA in mid Jan 03 and it was back in Feb. It's far simpler now under the Washington / Sydney accord. Your husband only needs to show that he can join an institution in the UK. He will need certified copies of his qualifications and a CV, plus the @ £100 cost.
I believe that the application process now takes about 12 months, applying direct to Australia under independent skilled migration.
You can find the forms for skill assessment on the IEA web site. www.ieaust.org.au/

You MUST send now skilled visa applications to the Skilled Processing Centre in Adelaide - any skilled applications sent to the Australian High Commission in London (for example) will be returned to you ...
Best regards.

My application went to Adelaide 5th April 2002, medicals and police check sent back for deadline 25th August 2002, request for another medical for me was wrong and now progressing (so I am told) still waiting for news of visas hopefully any day now. I am a nurse and have been told nurses are given priority most seeing visas in 6 months but this is not always true.
