I have a skilled working visa which expires April 2012, We have had illness in the family which has belayed our move, is they anyway of extending our visa for a few more months??

Assuming that you have activated your visa in a timely manner, you will be able to apply for an RRV, Resident Return Visa. This will allow you an additional 5 years I believe to make your move. Be aware that you will be required to provide good reason why you were unable to make the move in the 4 years allotted. And if you are granted an RRV you will be VERY limited as to the amount of time you can be outside Australia while satisfying your 4 year residency requirement.
