Hi, I am having conflicting info, so i need to clear this up. Will the new crop of LCd tellies available now in the UK (he full hd 1080 ones) work fine in AUS? Some people say yes, and some say no. I know there was an issue with sound on the older crt tellies. We need a new telly now,and if they work, I'll get a new one, but I am loathed to spend the money if we only get 6-12 months use out of it in the UK!. Thanks
My daughter arrived in Oz last October from the UK and brought with her a Samsung Plasma HD complete with HD tuner. She plugged it in did a full scan and was off and running with no problems - she can pick up all available channels.
It is my understanding that the UK and Oz are both using the same digital platform so there should never be a problem.
IIRC the version of PAL used in Aus is slightly different to the UK version (audio carrier frequency I think). However most TVs can be adjusted to work, since most manufacturers only want a minimum number of product lines.
At the same time, Australia is moving to DVB-T and so digiboxes will work OK. However (again) Australia has HD digiboxes which you may want instead of the UK SD only versions.
Given the state of Australian TV - the issue is more one of finding something to watch. Take the DVD player with you, so you can play your region 2 DVDs OK. Australia is region 4.
Finding a way to access iPlayer from Aus is a smart move.
