Hello - We shall be moving to Oz in a few weeks time (Adelaide), I am a Self-Employed Painter & Decorator and have been for 3 Yrs now. I have no formal qualifications for my trade but hope to start up as self-employed again as soon as I get to Oz. Now, I have been told that I will not have to re-train and that I will be able to go straight into self-employment no problem. Can anybody out there confirm this for me, any help much appreciated.
Thanks

Not sure about Adelaide but I think the rules apply similarly in different states. In WA a painter needs to be registered to undertake any work in excess of $200.

See the following site for some guidance and check the internet for your state.

You have not said what visa you are coming under -did you have your painter and decorator skills assessed for visa? This might help.
