- Agreed that an ENS visa provides permanent residency from the outset.
- To sponsor a parent the child has to be "settled" in Australia, which is interpreted by the Department of Immigration as meaning the child has lived lawfully in Australia for at least two years and is a permanent resident.
- Their application for citizenship isn't affected by their future sponsorship of your visa application.
- Note also that you might need an Assurance of Support (depending on the visa pathway you follow - one is needed for a permanent visa, but not for a temporary Contributory Parent visa). The Assurer (who need not be the family relative, but often is) has to provide confirmation of assessable income in Australia above a defined amount, as evidenced by Tax Assessment Notices issued by the Australian Taxation Office for the last two income tax years.
- If you would like to discuss your plans more fully can I suggest you might call my office in Southampton (023 80 488777) and ask to speak with Lorraine Beaumont?
Best regards.
