I've heard there is a long backlog in any migration applications in which the applicant is a US citizen or has lived/worked for any length of time in the US. Apparently this is due to the DIMIA-initiated FBI background checks. Does anyone have idea idea how long this takes?
Alan, have you run into any delays with such applications?
No, a canadian citizen, but worked in the US for over 5 years. I've already sent in the police certificates, but apparently DIMIA does their own initiated FBI check, and the backlog is because of the FBI taking so long.
It is almost beyond belief you supply police clearance certificates from every state you have lived in and dimia still require more??. Sometimes I fail to understand the rhyme or reasons for it all. If you had been excluded/deported from the US it would be stamped in your passport? or from any other country. Can you not turn up in person at the hoover building and request an FBI clearance the same as a police clearance??. I am concerned as I may be in a similar situation,
Yes, I did get my own FBI check done (by sending fingerprints and some other info plus $18 US to the FBI), and mailed that back in April, but still no word. I believe the wait is not on Australia's end, but on the FBI taking forever to repond to the DIMIA-initiated background checks.
How did you go about getting the FBI check done? we have a local office in Columbus, do you know if they can do it? or do you require a special form ??
