can someone please tell me what I need to qualify as a cook in Oz? I have my NVQ2 catering and presently work as a cook in a leisure centre. I worked 7 years ago as a cook and before this although I only have the 7 yrs ago reference which was for one years work. I am 36 female with one child who's father is no longer alive. Can someone point me in the right direction please, do I need my NVQ3 plus more work experience etc. many thanks for your time . lyn

Please send me an email (with a CV if available). I met a chap from a Registered Training Organisation last week that is carrying out workplace assessments of Cooks and Chefs - in the UK - leading to the issuing of an AQF Certificate III.

With an AQF Cert III and 4 years relevant and verifiable work experience you can reasonably anticipate a positive migration skills assessment from TRA under their Skill Pathway E, after which you can lodge your application for a general skilled visa.

Hi Alan, the problem I have my love is work experience that is verified!!!! I can only get hold of about 14 months work experience in the last 7 years. So what I plan to do is go in as a newly qualified cook, if this is the case do I need 4 yrs work behind me plus NVQ2 or can I apply with NVQ2 plus NVQ3 and say 12 months recent work experince? It's all rather confussing for me so my appoligies in advance. It's just me and my daughter and would also like to know how much in a rough guide it will cost me? many thanks for your time lyn.
