Allocating 16,000 skilled migrants to regional Australia is essential to fill agricultural positions, according to FREE Eyre chief executive officer Mark Rodda.
He said it was becoming "extremely difficult" to find people prepared to work in everyday basic, agricultural pursuits.
"We struggle all the time to find good, reliable people who want to commit for a length of time," Mr Rodda said. But the Regional Sponsored Migration Scheme, announced as part of the 2011-12 Federal Budget, would encourage employers to sponsor 16,000 skilled workers for permanent residence in regional areas of SA.
