Paramedic Jon Peaple says he has been let down by the State Government. And he's not alone.
The 31-year-old single Englishman was among more than 100 overseas experts brought to Queensland last financial year to help solve the Queensland Ambulance Service's paramedic shortage.
They were recruited on the promise of permanent visas and a secure new life in Australia.
But Mr Peaple and 43 other overseas recruits have had to make do with temporary "Number 457 Visas" (for work). This means they cannot buy homes, get a car loan or credit card. They live under the threat of being sent back to England within four years.
