Some overseas entrepreneurs view the business migration scheme as little more than an opportunity to buy a passport, it has been claimed.
Following a visit to China and Malaysia, South Australian state Labor MP John Rau has said many businesspeople who apply to move to Australia have no interest in making a contribution to the country.
"It needs to be understood by government that many of these new residents do not intend to become permanent full-time residents," he said in a report to parliament. "Seen through Chinese eyes, this is essentially an opportunity to buy a passport."
