The State Government has toughened the English requirements for some skilled migrants wanting to settle in South Australia, in response to a huge increase in applications.
Immigration SA has gone further with accountants, increasing their language requirements to "good user", despite the occupation listed as being in critical shortage.
The general requirement for skilled migrants has been upgraded from a modest user to competent user. Some skilled tradespeople, however, can still be admitted even if they are rated as modest user, which means they have partial command of the language, but may make "many mistakes".
