Rising salaries and housing rentals are pushing up South Australia's low cost of living, a survey has warned.

Higher wages, largely flowing from mining projects, are starting to push SA in the same direction of the resources-boom states of Western Australia and Queensland, a national study by human resource consultants Mercer has found.

The flow-on effect of generous wage packages – usually linked to skills shortages – is impacting on rents and putting pressure on Adelaide's comparatively low cost of living, it said.
