Almost one in 10 British nationals live overseas, according to a report published today.

At least 5.5 million British-born people are permanently based abroad, about 9.2% of the UK population, researchers claimed.

A further 500,000 live in a foreign country for part of the year, mainly because they own a second home there.

Researchers said the UK will continue to see high net emigration, with as many as a million more Britons moving overseas in the next five years.
