Some geologists have eclipsed dentists as the highest-paid graduates in Australia, scoring rock-solid wages of more than $80,000 a year.
Brisbane-based geologist Greg Webb said yesterday a national shortage of geologists had seen graduates step out of university into $80,000-plus positions.
Dr Webb said demand was "so severe" he was regularly hounded by headhunters, second-year students were offered full-time jobs and said the Government had relaxed immigration requirements to attract overseas geoscientists.
