Woodside chief Don Voelte has backed West Australian Premier Colin Barnett's controversial call for restrictions on overseas workers to be relaxed to help cope with looming skill shortages.
Despite rising unemployment and hundreds of apprentices being suspended in Western Australia because of the economic downturn, Mr Barnett returned from China this week predicting massive labour shortages by 2011 and said the federal government must act to ensure skills could be imported.
