There was a time when they were pitching Adelaide as a feast for the senses, breathlessly describing its "balmy climate, award-winning vineyards, fantastic beaches, plentiful job opportunities and an affordable cost of living".

Two years on, and savvy South Australian marketing professionals hoping to lure more overseas arrivals have largely abandoned that tactic for a comparatively no-nonsense approach that skips over the eyes and ears and hits the hip pocket instead.
