Does anyone know if you get a tax refund when leaving the UK? We are hoping to go next year and I heard that it may be possible to get tax you have paid in the current tax year refunded. Is this true? or urban myth :-)

When you leave the UK you need to complete form P85 for HM Revenue & Customs (previously Inland Revenue)

The tax that you have had deducted from your earnings is calculated assuming that you are going to be paid for a full tax year (12 months).

You may therefore be eligable for a tax refund for a proportion of what you have paid depending on how many months left in the tax year when you leave UK.

I hope this makes sense
