We have recently sent off our TRA application and were wondering when is a good time to seek financial advice on pensions and other financial matters? We have a number of pensions, most of which have been frozen, through bad financial advice I may add, and so we are not sure really where to start or even when to start sorting our financial matters out. Do we wait till we hear something positive, we will be applying under a STNI visa, or get sorted now to save time?

Someone, please give us a hint of what to do!!

Thanks.

Jo

Hi Jo

We too are in a similar position, as just sent off my skills assessment and will be applying for STNI. Went to the Sandown migration expo today and spoke to a couple of financial advisers. They said that in general people leave it too late and really it should be one of the first things you do, as it is such a pivitol issue. They said good financial planning now can save on tax etc when you get to Aus.We have made appt's to speak to a couple next week.

Lesley.

Hi Andy

We went to see Montford's and spoke to a Mr Davies. We wern't very impressed and have since heard bad reports- see british expats site. They wanted about £1400 plus any charges payable. This seemed a flat rate regardless of amount of work required. our situation is fairly straight forward and it seemed a lot of money. However since then have communicated with Alan at Go Matilda and he charges around £400 for a report giving advice. You fill out a questionaire and then he sends report and you liase by e mail. He is very professional and I have only heard good reports about him, so we will be using his services.

We also spoke to Australian Financial Services who seem very professional and I have read a posting from someone who has used them in Aus and who has been pleased. However, Alan reccomends a Colleauge in Aus and I think I would feel more confident using him.

Good luck

Lesley
