Company have advised that I will lose LAFHA after buying property. Answer in another discussion stated that the tax risk was with the employer. Can someone explain and define what this means in real terms. Thanks

Your question is a tad cryptic ... Smile

Can you explain more fully? Thanks.

I am on 457 in Melbourne. Company have now advised that anyone who has purchased property in Australia as I have is no longer eligible for LAFHA as they have deemed to be not returning to home. I dont see this connection is being valid as it is an investmnet decision only. I bought rather than pay rent and as an investment. I am staying in the property.

On an earlier message I saw you write that it was a company issue as opposed to any ATO ruling or words to that effect?

Is this clear?

Thanks

Yep, thanks for the fuller explanation.

The bottom line is that the availability of the LAFHA and the implementation of policy relating to the same is your employer's decision.

Your choice if you don't agree with their policy is to discuss the same with them, to put your perspective on matters for their consideration - and if they don't agree whether or not to remain employed with them ...

Best regards.
