I'm currently in Oz on a 4-year 457 visa. My current package includes a LAFHA. I'm thinking of buying a new property in Oz, so will I loose my LAFHA, or is it possible to side-step this in anyway... legally of course.

Thanks

Mick

With the LAFHA there has to be an intention to return to your "usual place of abode" ... buying a house undermines that intention, but I believe the risk in a tax context sits with your employer, so I would be up front with the HR department and simply advise them (in writing) that you are buying a property.

Best regards.
