I moved to Oz about 4 months ago on a PR visa. I've just been offered a chance to do some contract work for my old employers, back in the UK. I would still be living in Oz, although there might be occasional trips back to the UK.
Has anyone does anything like this before who would like to share their experience?
I'm not sure of the best arrangement from the point of view of tax etc. As far as I can see, I have three options:
1. Be contracted as a named individual.
2. Use a limited company in the UK (I already have one, which I used until I moved to Oz, or I could set up a new one).
3. Set up a company here in Oz.
I have a feeling the clients would prefer option 2. Is there any disadvantage to this? I don't want to end up in a complicated or expensive tax situation.
Thanks in advance,
PPJ

In short, I recommend that you speak with a competent accountant. If you'd like a name and contact details please send me an email.
As an aside, why have you retained a UK limited company? The advice would usually be to wind up such a company and if funds are retained in the business to make use of the UK's CGT tapering relief provisions (which appear to be only available until 05/04/2008 following yesterday's statement from the Chancellor of the Exchequer).
Best regards.

Are you an offshore worker by any chance? I've been looking into this situation for a while with not much luck. I am due to be moving back out to Aus early next year so i'd be more than happy to share experience, but as yet I have none to share! Drop me an email and we can help each other out. hardyhardyhar@yahoo.com.au
