The sale of a property that has been your main residence throughout the period of your ownership is exempt from the charge to CGT in the UK.

I will insist on this, please Alan can you give me an advice.
I own my house and my grandmother's house is under my name too. I am not confident on selling before 'the move'.
Both houses have been my perm residence sometime :-) I guess I will have to show where I have actually lived for the last year or so? What should I keep and bring ? Most bills have my name, is this enough?
Secondly, once my perm residence has been set, what about the other house. Say I sell it in a year or two, now I have a "CGT Event", do I?
To be open with you, there could be a fair amount of tax at stake, and a discussion forum is not the place for advise on which you might want to rely. My advice on forums such as this one can only be general in nature, and in this increasingly litigious world in which we live I hope you understand where I am coming from.
I would therefore recommend that you consider paying for some formal advice ...
Best regards.

Oh, yes, I am sure we will go for and pay for a formal advice, as soon as when we get there. I am only trying to gather all the documents I may be asked for. And, as there are months ahead I'm just trying to 'do my homework'. Thanks anyway Sylvia.

Alan and Go Matilda provide these forums for free and yet this is the second or third time that you have slagged him off for suggesting that someone should get professional advice! He has not even suggested that people get the advice from him.
You insulted every father in the UK by suggesting that we drink down the pub instead of caring for our kids during a discussion on child safety seats. You then suggested that a few mothers were still in the Victorian era because you did not like where they put their children in the car.
As a civil engineer (uncivil in this case) do you work for free or do you ask to be paid? They way I see it everyone is entitled to earn a living without being attacked for it. That includes Alan who deserves our thanks and not your ranting.
Why don’t you go off to www.gratuitous –insult.com and leave us in peace?
Love Martin.
Does it rain on the Reef? (I'm getting closer to finding out)

I quite agree- Alan has helped us by answering some of our queries before we decided to use them as our emigration agent. This web site has been a God send with the infomation it supplies.
We say a big thank you to Go Matilda!!

I see from your post that you still harbour childish grudges MartinB, even though you're previous arguments were soundly defeated.
However, if Alan is providing a 'service' which is apparently useful, then far be from me to stand in his $way$.
I do expect to be paid for my profession. As an engineer, I design and build much needed insfrastructure in order for the world to function, such as roads, railways, bridges, dams, sporting facilities, mine infrastructure, military facilities etc.
Your Still at it fisherman....now your slaggin off Alan who has been of more help to people than you ever could be...
This is a site where people ask questions and swop ideas. Its a support system for people who are in the process of migrating to Australia.
Why you are actually here god knows....No one cares about what you do or say you do....For all we know you could be actually claiming centrelink and spend half your life in the bar....So what...
No ones interested in pandering to your over inflated ego.....Alan and Go Matilda have been extremely helpful to a lot of people and the most helpful thing you could do yourself would be to switch of your PC before you come out with comments such as ''money grabber'' and ''swindler''
Well said Pete and Martin. I have also benefited from Alan's advice without him getting a single cent as payment.
Out of interest I read the child car seat thread and was amazed at the absolute crap and drivel coming out of that idiots mouth. As an engineer myself I would expect a lot more from a so called proffesional. I suspect that Pete's description of the plank may be nearer the truth.
Once again, thanks to Alan and his staff for all the help, advice and assistance that was given free over the past few months.
We did sell our house and transfered some of the profit over to use as deposit on a house here. The advice that I was given is that I would not be taxed on that amount as I had sold my primary residence and to go one step further was using most of the money towards the purchase of my primary residence here in Oz.
