The following web-site (http://www.ato.gov.au/corporate/content.asp?doc=/content/6979.htm) informs me that if I am non-resident (less than 6 months in Oz) then I do not need a TFN. However I am applying for 410 retirement visa and need to invest in Oz preferably in a fixed term account. To open such an accout I am iformed that unless I have a TFN then 48.5% of interest will be deducted at source - if I have a TFN only 10% will be deducted at source. Can anyone shed any light on this? Can I get a TFN before I arrive in Oz? Do I need a TFN or would a UK address satisy the bank that I am non-resident? Roger
