I've stumbled across this website: http://www.ozforex.com.au/default.htm Which has lots of usefull currency exchange info. They also claim to be competitive for transfering money for migrants. But how do I know it's save to trust them (or for that matter any company) with all the money I own ? Is there some sort of register or official body I could check with ?
Good point- I work in investment banking in London and am also looking to move some currency to Oz. Alan Collett recommended www.hifx.co.uk - they do not appear to be regulated ( I am checking with our regulatory dept if they need to be) but their sister company is fully regulated by the FSA, so they certainly dont appear to be fly-by-night merchants. Will update this once I get the regulatory information back.
Been discussing this further - firms offering only currency exchange do not have to be regulated as this is not deemed investment business. Obviously anyone can set up a website offering currency exchange services, so using a company like hifx.co.uk which has a regulated sister company (go to fsa.gov.uk and search on "Halewood") seems a pretty sound idea - alternatively check out the services your bank can offer.
