I am migrating soon and find that to get a credit card in Oz I shall need a cash deposit against the credit limit.

Does anyine know if there is a way around this. I've been told that having a UK card with the same company (HSBC) doesn't help either.

Thanks

Had the same problem with HSBC Aus myself. Resolved it by:
a) getting my current bank (HSBC UK) to write a "letter of introduction" saying I'd held a credit card with them for several years;
b) threatening to move the HSBC Aus bank account elsewhere. Mad
Only got a pathetic AU$5k limit - but it's a start. Big Grin

HSBC Australia is not linked to HSBC in the UK, But it is linked to HSBC Asia, no good to us!
I am with HSBC UK with a platinum visa, makes no difference here.
I have joined the Commonwealth Bank for both personal and business. They have given me a visa with a $15,000 limit.
I have found them very helpful indeed. It is easier to wait until you are here, put a good amount in your personal account and then apply for a C/C.
