Please can anybody tell me what the UK CGT position is likely to be on my Mum's house?
She & Dad bought it in 1976 and lived in it continuously till he died in 1991, apart from 1989-80 when they went to Oz for a year and it was rented out whilst they were away After Dad died, Mum lived in it till mid 1992 when she went to Ox for a year. It was reted out for about 3 years from 1992-1995, when Mum came back to the UK and lived in it herself for about 5 months. It was then rented out agaihn until June 1992 when Mum and my sister lived in it again for 2 months.
It has been let ever since August 2002 again, is let at the moment and Mum doesn't want to offer it for sale until June 2007.
Can anyone tell me where she will stand on UK CGT, please?
We are moving out in Jan, and have been sweating the rules on taxation. Below is a helpline number for non-residents at the Inland revenue. they were very helpful and answered our questions on the spot. Good luck!
