Hi, coming out in Mar 08 on a 457 and will be paid by my company locally. Aside from all my food, utility, rent bills I also have UK commitments (mortgage, loan and child payments). Apart from my salary I will be getting a ex armed forces pension and a war disablement pension and rent from my property paid into my existing UK account. I will be using that to pay off my UK financial burden but will still need to supplement that with £900 worth of Aus$ every month.
Do I have to declare my UK extra income to Oz tax office, even though it is for UK financial commitments and would need that extra top up? If so, would that end up me being out of pocket or in pocket? I appreciate there are countless Aus Gov web pages that could, to a tax expert, help but all I need is a quick down and dirty! Bit concerned that I could end up in severe financial difficulty if this goes all pear shape! Hope you can help, cheers.
