You can (and probably should) lodge form P85 once you have left the UK; you needn't wait until the end of the tax year.

It is often the case that a tax repayment is made once form P85 has been lodged (as the balance of your tax allowances for the tax year of departure are available to reduce your overall tax liability for that same tax year).

Form P85 is available here:http://www.inlandrevenue.gov.uk/cnr/p85_p85s.htm

Best regards.

Hello again doscas.

I can't be certain as I don't know enough about your situation, but almost without exception the income tax reclaim is only available for the tax year in which you leave the UK.

Best regards.

Sorry, can somebody explain this to me - If I leave the country (not to return for the rest of the financial year) and file a P85 form to reclaim income tax, do I get rebated on everything I've paid so far this year or a pro rata return on the difference between what I have paid and my annual tax free allowance?
