Can anyone tell me what to with the Child Trust Fund's -
Do we notify them of a new address once moved ?
Will they send out the statements to Australia ?
As our 2 children are still very young , there is a risk this will be forgotten in many years to come, I can hardly remember last week, never mind trying to follow this up in 15 years

I would think that they would send the statements to Oz. Have you asked them ? Most institutions have the capability to record overseas addresses.

This is a good question that I have also been unable to find an answer to. I was ready to just forget about the money since it is not something we have ever earned.
If you do find an answer to this will you please post it on this thread? Thanks

Ok - so I call up the Post Office to ask about Family Investments i.e CTF's in which we invested - the reply 'sorry Sir, cant help - maybe you should try their website - http://www.childtrustfund.gov.uk/ -
so I obtain a number from their website (one that I had already called twice before, and as it is on the statement) and I call once again - Ready for this - (ME as me, and FI as Family Investments)

(FI)they were quick to tell me that if the Child (Children in our case) was to move abroad, then they can continue to hold the CTF, and they will still be able to qualify for preferential tax treatment but they will not be entitled to receive any further Government contributions - which I think he said was when they reached the age of 7 - don't quote me on that , so after having this explained to me again, I asked the question that I really wanted to know the answer to -
(ME)I will be changing my address soon, 'We are moving abroad !' can you please tell me how to update our Childrens details -
(FI)'Oh yes Sir, certainly, you must forward us' - then I interrupt again, with ...
(ME)'We are moving abroad, will they forward all communications to our new address in Australia' comment -
(FI)Oh - I dont know if we can do that ... (Me)can you tell me if there is anyone that can answer this question for me ? -
(FI)Yes , let me take your number and we will call you back .... 3 days later - NO CALL ... what do you reckon - shall I try again ??

Southbound,

You did not read the web site well enough. It says you need to update Inland Revenue re Child Benefit and they will automatically update CTF. Go here

http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/childbenefit/contactus.htm

They have numbers for overseas so they expect people to go abroad.
