I find the whole process of opening bank accounts, transferring and exchanging money (and when to do this), keeping a uk bank a/c when we won't have a uk address, freezing pensions but keeping stocks and shares totally bewildering. Does anyone have experience to share on this? Or does anyone know of a good financial advisor with knowledge of the Australian system and who's based in Manchester or thereabouts.

have a chat with Collet adn co they have all the information on the laws and best ways to go about the financial side. My Brother in law is a IFA but cannot say whether you will be taxed on things you hold outside of Australia, for example a endowment.

I would like to speak to Alan at Go Matilda but they don't do road shows or anything so we'd have to go down to Southampton, which is too far. However, we've found out that Montfort International are coming up to Manchester and we could make an appointment there. I think it costs £300 - £400.
